FAQs
Do I need a doctor’s referral to receive physiotherapy treatment?
No, you are not required to bring a doctor’s referral to access physiotherapy, kinesiology or massage therapy. There are some cases where coverage through certain health care plans require a doctor’s referral.
Are all health benefits plans accepted?
As a registered physiotherapist, I offer services that are covered by your extended health benefits in both locations. However, we do not do direct billing. Instead, we will provide a receipt that you can use to claim with your insurance company.
Is there Direct Billing at Connecta or Jericho Physio?
Currently, neither of the two locations offers Direct Billing. A receipt will be provided that you can use to claim with your insurance company.
Does Marcel see more than one patient at a time?
No, I provide one-on-one physiotherapy treatment sessions. You will have undivided attention during your consultation. You will get my undivided attention during the session, and I will not leave the room to attend to another patient or use any machines.
What should I wear for my appointment?
Please wear comfortable and loose clothes that allow movement. Exercise clothing, yoga pants, shorts , tank tops, and t-shirts. Please avoid jeans, belts, sweatshirts, multiple layers, and any restrictive or embarrassing clothing that may make certain treatments uncomfortable. For female clients, I recommend avoiding underwire bras if possible, as these can often be uncomfortable and get in the way during certain techniques. A sports bra is a good alternative. Skirts, dresses, and kilts should also be avoided for modesty.
How do I prepare for my first visit?
Please arrive 5 mins before your session and bring the following with you:
Personal Health Care Card Number
Doctor’s Referral (if prescribed)
ICBC Clients: bring your claim number, adjuster name.
What is your cancellation policy?
A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a gap in the my day that could have been filled by another patient. As such, I require 24 hour notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Patients who provide less than 24 hour notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a cancellation fee.
Are there any potential side effects after treatment?
My treatment is safe even if you have received dry needling application, although you may experience some side effects for up to 48 hours. Side effects could include headaches, fatigue, or mild to moderate soreness or pain.
These are usually seen as positive changes in the body. As areas of the body that were not moving well initially have their mobility restored, you may start to experience different sensations due to improved muscle function, blood circulation and nerve activity.
For the first 24 hours after treatment, it is recommended to rest, avoid strenuous activity and stay well hydrated. This will allow your nervous system to process and adapt to the new inputs received during your treatment.
If discomfort arises, a warm compress/bath (if acute inflammation/recent trauma is not present) or short ice application can be applied to alleviate discomfort. You are always welcome to contact me if you have any concerns.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
Depending on the issue, some patients need only one appointment; others who suffer from chronic conditions require regular follow-ups for long-term care. We will tailor your treatment based on your progress rather than a fixed number of sessions.I appreciate your cooperation with the recommendations to ensure the effectiveness and timeliness of your treatment. Please note that missing or changing appointments frequently may delay your recovery.
Is there parking available?
